SUMMARY
Retired Major General Cliver Antonio Alcala Cordones was sentenced in the Southern District of New York to 21 years and 6 months (260 months) in prison for providing material support to a narco-terrorist organization (the FARC) and for illicit arms trafficking. Alcala, the former commander of the border garrison with Colombia, had pleaded guilty in June 2023 after voluntarily surrendering to U.S. authorities in March 2020.
OUTCOME
It is the first executed conviction in the Southern District of New York's "Cartel de los Soles" case and a direct precedent for the later proceedings against Hugo Carvajal and other defendants.
